About Me

I grew up in rural upstate New York, where small-town life taught me the value of personal relationships in our day to day life. During my career in primary care Internal Medicine, I was able to combine the science of medicine with an opportunity to be present for my patients, and maintain enduring relationships. After a near twenty year career in Southern New Hampshire, my husband and I moved to Southern Oregon and practiced in a rural community. It was at that time I reflected on my own strengths, and decided to focus on one basic principle: help people find and maintain their motivation for sustainable lifestyle change.

At that juncture, I sought training through Duke University as an integrative health and wellness coach. I also returned to creative writing as I saw significant parallels; during my master’s program in creative writing I developed a therapeutic writing program. A journey through health coaching is similar to writing a story: we create a framework (plot), we identify strengths and values (create vibrant characters), identify barriers to overcome (introduce conflict), and set goals (identify a climax, moral, or overarching observation).

To be closer to family, we relocated to New Mexico which has allowed me the opportunity to found Health Wise Consulting. Working as a health educator and coach, I pursue my singular passion which is to put people ahead of systemic health goals, and help my clients find the space to understand their health and help drive their own lifestyle change, on their terms. I can support a whole-person experience by moving away from pathology and toward proactive health management.

When not helping clients reach their goals, I keep working on my own! I love to explore the outdoors and absorb the energy of the flora, fauna, and amazing geology of New Mexico’s rift valley. And when I am not working, you might find me hiking, camping, sewing, harvesting veggies from the garden, birdwatching, or writing. Most of all, I try to remain present in every moment.

What Clients are saying …

“What I appreciate most about my sessions with Jennifer Wise is that she encouraged me to find my own solutions to my health issues. Through thoughtful discussion with her, I would arrive at an action plan and a timeline for executing it, so that at the very next session I felt ready to tackle a deeper issue.” - L.T.

“Even though I spent many years engaging in healthy habits, the added benefit of health and wellness coaching was a natural continuum.  Jennifer was very beneficial in helping me channel what I had learned previously into tackling specific and quantifiable goals to achieve real rewards.  I highly recommend this approach!” - A.H.

“Navigating ways to meet your end goal can be challenging. Jennifer is extremely patient and thoughtful and directed my focus to see my true objective, helping me to identify a better path forward in solving my problem. She asks the right questions that will make you think about your goal and how to get there with the tools you have.” - R.W.
